Garden Slugs in Motion
Short time-lapse video to see what happens in our Eugene, Oregon garden bed. Banana slugs move really slowly but when sped up by 1800X it seems like they have a plan! Also, check out what pops in and out of the mushroom caps.

Sunrise Hour with Ferruginous Hawk Nest Site

On a remote stretch of OR-205 between Burns and the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a lone tree stands off the highway. For years it has housed a Ferruginous Hawk nest. This year four chicks share the open-top nest. A previous winter storm broke the top of the tree but it is the only tree for miles around and it is still favored by these hawks. This video begins just after sunrise when heat h...

Exchanging Wood Steps for Stone

Last winter was arriving so I initially built a quick-ish wooden step staircase meant to be temporary until I had more time to put in the stone steps. Now that it is drying out, it's time to replace the steps. This video chronicles the swap-out of one wooden step with one stone step.

The Return of the Black Bear

I've been religiously taking down my bird feeders and the bear has not returned until this morning. Compared to last time, I left up the rain shield which the bear treats like a boxer's speed ball. Again the pole is no match for the bear. Now I've strung a line 15' up between two trees to hang a suet feeder. We'll see what happens in Round 3!

This not hating nature. In fact just the opposite. If this person hated nature then he would not put out a bird feeder. Or he would physically harm the squirrel. If you notice he is trying everything to prevent one squirrel from hoarding all the food from a multitude of birds. No different than a farmer keeping the fox out of the chicken coop. Why not let the fox eat the chickens? Isn’t the fox part of nature? Just saying 😊
